On arrival at the airport you will be met by an Anthurium representative who will brief you; give you detailed documentation and IGN hiking map of the route and answer any questions you may have. Transfer to Saint Gilles Les Bains to relax before your hike and pick up picnic supplies for the next day.

Transfer to the green east coast of the island and enter the Cirque of Salazie, famous for its magnificent waterfalls, there is time on arrival to buy some picnic provisions for the hike ahead. (You may leave your main baggage behind at the hotel in Saint Gilles Les Bains).

Hike from Hellburg through the picturesque Cirque de Salazie, up to the Belouve forest (primary forest), approximately 2 to 2 1/2 hours hike 4.8km with a climb in elevation of +500m.

Continuing throught the Cirque de Salazie, a days hike of 10km taking between 6 and 6 1/2 hours, with a climb of +980m.

A full days hike up to Piton des Neiges - the highest point on the island, then continue down into the Cirque de Cilaos, to the pretty town of Cilaos. Distance of 16.8km, taking approximately 7 to 8 hours and with a climb of 591m followed by a descent of 1860m.

A day to explore the town, take the chance to relax in the thermal baths or by the hotels pool.

Resume your hike with a full days walk climbing out of the Cirque de Cilaos; across the "Col de Taibit" rim and then down into the Cirque de Mafate. Distance of 7km, taking between 7 - 8 hours and climbing 1320m before descending 912m.

Continue your hike through the Cirque de Mafate, an area completely unaccesbile by vehicle, covering a distance of 11.7km and taking between 5 and 5 1/2 hours with a descent of 720m and an ascent of 200m.

Enjoy your final days hike, climbing to the rim of the Cirque de Mafate at Maido, a distance of 7.5km taking between 4 1/2 and 5 hours and climbing 1000m. From the Maido viewpoint you will be met at 1500 and transfered back to the resort of Saint Gilles Les Bains.

Your hire car will be delivered to your hotel, from where you will drive to visit the fascinating region of Piton de le Fournaise.

Spend the morning hiking across the lava plain and around the rim of the Piton de la Fournaise. Drive to Plaine des Cafres.

Drive across the Plaine-des-Palmistres to the east coast, then continue north to Saint Denis
