Other Information
The cycle ride along the river Dunajec, from Podhale (the plateau at the foot of the High Tatras) to the towns of Stary Sacz and Nowy Sacz, is a adventure which you can now experience for yourself.
You may have heard of the raft trips on the Dunajec. They are in fact one of the earliest attractions in Europe to be laid on especially for tourists. A few years ago the opening of new tourist border crossings made the paths through the Pieniny hills on the Slovakian side along the famous gorge accessible to visitors. And on other stretches of the Dunajec valley you will find paths that are just as beautiful. You will also come across the authentic folk traditions of the Goral and Spisz people. As yourself follow the cycle trails through the villages of Podhale you feel almost like pioneers of cycle touring at the beginning of the last century.
Bicycle rental is available at £25 per week.
This price includes the hire on the spot of well-maintained, robust touring cycles equipped with 21-speed derailleur gears. There is also a limited number of cycles with 5-speed hub gears. The cycles are equipped with saddlebags, but you may bring your own bags if you wish.
Operator Remarks
Bird Service Tours invite you to an eight-day tour, beginning and ending on a Saturday, with the first and last nights spent in Krakow, and five nights in villages and towns in the mountains. We provide a knowledgeable cycle tour guide, whio is familiar with the rich culture, history and nature of this delightful part of the Carpathians. The route is on quiet, well-made roads and paths. Occasionally, but only for a few kilometers, the route is on busier roads, or on field paths. This is a typical trekking bike tour. There are no difficult gradients, and as always in river valley routes most of it is downhill. The daily stages are not long (30-60 km). After the conclusion of the tour, there are many opportunities for seasoned cyclists to make further tours in the surrounding hills. Your guide will be available with his knowledge of the area and enthusiasm for cycling!
