The best of Guatemala in one week
8 days from USD 1382 (£694) per person
This one week tour of Guatemala offers the opportunity to see the highlights of the country in a relatively short period of time.
Beginning in the colonial city of Antigua, we travel to the market of Chichicastenango, famous for it's colourful textiles and quality craft work, before continuing to Lake Atitlan, where we take scenic trips by boat to visit a textile cooperative, medicinal plant centre and local naif painter workshops in San Juan La Laguna. In the small lakeside village of Santiago, we hope to come face to face with the Maya God Maximon and to learn about the textiles, spiritualism and beliefs of the T’zutujil Maya.
We visit the colorful authentic market at Solola and the small Maya Archaeology site at Iximche, before returning to Antigua where we enjoy a half day walking tour of the colonial city before later travelling to the capital, Guatemala City.
The following morning, travellers fly to Flores, then visit Yaxha National Park, where we enjoy an atmospheric lakeside site ending with wonderful views at sunset over the rainforest canopy from atop the main temples. This sets the scene perfectly for our final day and highlight of the trip - the final morning will explore the amazing UNESCO protected Mayan Temple site of Tikal where huge Mayan temples rise above the jungle canopy and monkeys and tropical birds are abundant in the surrounding rainforest.
Finally, we return to Guatemala City, where this short but complete tour ends.
