This morning you depart your hotel in Dahab at 08:00hrs and travel by 4WD to visit the Bronze Age tombs of Nawamis. These amazing tombs date back some 5,500 years and are the oldest structures in the world that retain their original roofs.

Next we travel further into the Sinai to visit the amazing ‘Frozen Dinosaur’ rock and the high sand dunes of Haddoudah, the largest in the Sinai and for many epitomising what a desert should really look like. After we visit Wadi Safra where lunch is served, freshly prepared and cooked on the open fire. Depending upon how the day has gone thus far and the time of year it may be possible to visit the Double Canyon.

Tonight we arrive at Ein El Akdar for dinner and overnight camping.

After breakfast we travel once more by 4WD to El Gofa and Wadi Gharaba some of the most outstanding and wildest locations in the region. After exploring we make our way to Fuga and the Forest of Pilars where we explore on foot. This is an area of volcanic activity that has left the rock sticking out of the land like stalagmites. The ancient turquoise mines close to Serabit El Khadim have been known about since pharaonic times and indeed provided much of the turquoise seen on the stunning jewellery we are all familiar with and this area provides our campsite for tonight.

Serabit el Khadem is one of the most important archaeological sites in the Sinai, a huge Hathor temple surrounded by the remains of turquoise mines used by the ancients, whilst on the walls and steles of the temple itself many unique engravings and bas-reliefs can be seen. Archaeologists have found that the very earliest known settlers in the Sinai – they arrived about 8000 years ago – were miners. Drawn by the region’s abundant copper and turquoise deposits, these groups slowly wended their way southward, hopping from one mineral deposit to the next. By 3500 BC, the great turquoise veins of Serabit el-Khadem had been discovered.
