You will be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel. Ho Chi Minh City was the capital of South Vietnam before the reunification of the country in 1975 and was called Saigon at that time, renamed Ho Chi Minh City after the Communist victory. Today both names are used interchangeably and the city has become the economic driving force of the country. |
| |
Today you are free to explore this exciting city - stroll along the boulevards and take in the sights. A visit to the War Remnants Museum is a sobering reminder of the country’s mid-20th century turmoil, whilst the Reunification Palace shows who was victorious. Saigon has just about everything to offer: mysterious pagodas, bustling markets, great food, colonial architecture and a variety of interesting museums. Take time perhaps to enjoy a drink on the roof of the famous Rex Hotel from where you have a great view over the city. |
| |
The morning an excursion out of the city takes you to Tay Ninh and the great Cao Dai temple for noon mass. Cao Dai-ism is an eclectic mix of Buddhism, Confucius, Taoism, Hinduism and Christianity and the temple here is as famous as it is ornate.
This afternoon we visit the famous Cu Chi Tunnel where you will have the unique opportunity to experience life as a Viet Cong guerrilla who lived underground during the war. The 200km of tunnels are amazing and a crawl through 50-100 meters is unforgettable.
You will also visit a local rice-paper workshop before returning to your hotel. |
| |
