Air transport and transfers to and from M/V Polar Star; visa, passport, vaccination charges and airport departure taxes; pre and post cruise activities; hotels and meals not included in the ship cruise itinerary, emergency evacuation charges, onboard gratuities; and personal expenses including laundry, postage, personal clothing requirements, medical expenses, personal travel insurance and items of a personal nature such as bar charges (alcohol, bottled water, sodas), communication costs (phone, fax, email) and shop purchases.

The M/V Polar Star can carry 105 passengers but in the Antarctic, we only carry a maximum of 100 passengers. IAATO (International Association of Antarctic Tour Operators) regulations only allow 100 passengers ashore at one time so, unlike larger vessels, when you travel with us you don’t have to waste valuable time waiting to go ashore!

There are 48 cabins onboard. All cabins are outside cabins with windows or portholes. We have 6 different types of cabins available.

Between embarking at the start of the voyage and disembarking at the end, all necessary transport is included.

Onboard MV Polar Star, you will be surrounded by an eclectic expedition team, made up of experts in biology, ornithology, history, culture, music and more, supported by a highly experienced Captain, crew and hotel staff who will transport you with safety and efficiency.

Our passengers range in age from small children to people in their 90’s so age is no barrier! Generally speaking though, most passengers are aged in the age range of 45 – 65 years old.

We welcome children onboard who are aged five years of age and older. We offer a children’s discount for children aged five to sixteen inclusive. All children must be accompanied by and accommodated in a cabin with a parent or guardian.

All our excursions, talks and activities are optional, but once we set sail for the Antarctic Peninsula there is no additional cost. Note that trips that visit Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands/Malvinas may incur a small cost, as described with the specific itinerary.

Polar Star Expeditions will provide a detailed packing list on confirmation of your booking.

Please note that as part of your booking we provide a waterproof outside layer to help keep you warm and dry.

Rubber boots are available on board for those wet landings. We have most sizes available, but let us know if you are concerned.

(It is valid for a period of 18 months from date of previous trip; may not be combined with special offers; is non transferable; does not apply to Sub-charter passengers; and is stepped and will increase after repeated travel.)

Loyalty Class: 2-4 trips $250

Seasoned Traveller Class: 5-10 trips $350

Veteran Traveller Class: More than 10 trips $500

Consecutive Tours Discount: 10% discount on total. (Antarctic expeditions exempt.)

Early Booker Discount: With confirmed booking, you qualify for a discount of 5% if confirmed 15 months in advance or more.

Under no circumstances may special fares or discounts be combined, only one may be used.

SINGLE TRAVELLERS

To guarantee single occupancy, the passenger is required to pay a single supplement of 1.6 times the double occupancy rate. Single passengers may book to share in K1, K2 or K3 cabin categories and will be guaranteed dble./triple occ. rate whether or not a cabin-mate is found.

INSURANCE

Full medical and emergency evacuation insurance is mandatory at an amount of not less than US$50,000; details to be provided to PSE. Comprehensive travel insurance is also strongly recommended.

Exact implementation of itineraries are weather (and ice) dependent and subject to change. The captain and expedition leader will set the daily sailing plan with the goals to maximize the experience and ensure safety.

PSE expressly reserves its right to change the tour and to change or shorten itineraries, without prior notice and for any reason whatsoever, whether before or after the tour has departed, all without liability on the part of PSE or Karlsen.

PSE also reserves the right to cancel any departure up until the date of that departure due to circumstances beyond the control of PSE that prevent the operation of the tour.
