Lake Kitandara Tours has been operating in Uganda since 1994 and is now recognised as one of Uganda’s leading tour operators in adventure travel. Owned and managed by Bonifence, a very experienced, amiable and professional operator, the company employs a small team of dedicated office support staff, professionally trained tour guides, drivers and camp staff. Bonifence plays an active role in his local Rotary Club at Port Bell and is an enthusiastic birdwatcher – displaying a passion for birds which runs throughout his company.
Our specific expertise includes organising gorilla trekking and wildlife safaris, bird watching tours, cultural tours, camping safaris, trekking and mountain climbing in customised groups or in individually-tailored itineraries.
We are fully licensed to work as a Tour Operator by the Uganda Government (Ministry of Tourism Trade & Industry) and are recognised by the Uganda Tourist Board. We are active members of the Association of Uganda Tour Operators (AUTO) and the African Bird Club. Our company holds all required insurances, with cover provided by AIG.
At Lake Kitandara we make a commitment to run our safaris in an environmentally, socially and culturally responsible way. We endeavour to carefully monitor how our trips are operated, provide information on potential negative effects of travel, and provide support to local charities and projects (e.g. schools and local health centres). We make every effort to ensure that our staff are recruited from the regions we operate in.
We are proud to be one of the leading mountain gorilla trekking safari operators in the region. A gorilla trek will take you in search of the rare endangered Mountain Gorillas, tracking them from the point where they spent the previous night. We also organise other primate safaris such as chimpanzee tracking.
We offer a range of carefully designed itineraries ranging from 6 to 17 days with accommodation in hotels, lodges or camping. We can take you to the great National Parks of Uganda to see the big five of Uganda and the Great Rift Valley.
Come and see for yourself the vast species of birds that Uganda boasts about! Uganda is home to a third of the world’s bird species (1008). You will be able to see the Northern Brown-throated Orange weaver, Eatern Grey Plantain eater, Montane Masked Apalis and the White Casqued Hornbill among the thousand species.
The 5,109 metre high, snow covered Rwenzori Mountains – also known as the ‘Mountains of the Moon’ offer you that unique experience you’ve been longing for! Enjoy with us the mist-shrouded peaks that provide stunning backdrops to this magnificent mountain.
Meal arrangements on our safaris are flexible, depending on the requirements of our guests and the availability of local restaurants and remoteness of lodges. Typically many safaris include dinner in lodges as there is no alternative. Camping safaris normally include all meals.
We can offer a range of accommodation from hotels and lodges to camping. We own the comfortable Bwindi Tented Camp and Campsite spectacularly located just a stones throw away from the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park gate. We also own a new tented camp in Queen Elizabeth NP - Hippo Hill Camp.
Our safaris are conducted in 4WD safari-equipped minibuses and land cruiser-style vehicles. We can also cater for larger private groups who require an overland-style experience travelling in a specially-modified overland truck.
We employ several professional local tour guides who are knowledgeable, friendly and add much value to the overall Ugandan safari experience.
The minimum age for gorilla tracking is 15 years.
Walking shoes, some warm clothing, rain coat, sun lotion, a hat, a note book, camera and its charger and binoculars.
