Hotel Prategiano offers comfortable accommodation in our 24 room property along with the ability to explore the area on foot, by bike and by horse – we offer a range of packages and can easily tailor-make a stay with activities to your exact needs.

In addition to the above a wide range of other activities are offered from archery, canoeing, cave exploration, ropes courses to quad bikes and guided excursions.

Licences and Associations

Officially recognised and licensed by the Italian Ministry of Tourism we are fully licensed to operate as a hotel and to offer the activities and excursions we do. Our guides hold fully authorised by the government of the “Regione Toscana”.

Responsible Travel

The hotel is family owned and has been since its creation in 1971 and the family and local people remain at the centre of our operational philosophy. This quiet corner of Tuscany is relatively little-visited and employment opportunities provided by the hotel and the guests that come to stay with us allow money to remain within the community.

A great example is our work with local company 75essima Avventura, whom have grown since we started working with them. By co-operating with local people we are able to ensure that money remains in the region, providing a future for future generations.

Needless to say our preferred methods of exploring – on foot, by bike and on horse back - are all environmentally friendly.

Walking Holidays in Tuscany

The area in which we are located is, quite simply, some of the most beautiful in Tuscany - made for exploring on foot. Our long residence here combined with our love of the great outdoors means we know the area well and, using this experience, we have put together a range of day walks that can be made from the hotel.

Self-guided walkers can head off with route notes and a map to discover the beautiful landscapes that surround the hotel. For some routes GPS data can be downloaded from our computer to your GPS device. We offer a 3-night and 7-night package but almost any duration can be arranged and an arrival at the hotel is possible on any day. Guided walking holidays are also available – just contact us with your requirements.
 

Horse riding holidays in Tuscany

Horse riding is where we started and it’s not too much to say that we are true experts in what we offer. We have a stable of 15 local Maremma and Maremma-cross horses and can accommodate riders of all abilities, whether novices or experienced riders.

The Maremma horse: Sturdy and fit they all have a balanced character, sure-footedness and are in excellent condition. Their overall will to survive in the difficult conditions of the Maremma has created a strong warm-blooded race, and an ideal trail horse. Today horses are bred and raised in the wide meadows. Intense friendships and an organised hierarchy mark the life of our horses. Through the security of the herd they develop a quiet, strong character, well able to cope with the rough ground underfoot.

We ride in English or trail saddles, and on a loose rein.

With an arrival possible on any day and with any duration of holiday possible we are sure that those seeking a riding holiday will love what we offer.

Mountain biking in Tuscany

Here in the Alta Maremma there are any number of off-road trails to discover – some have challenging uphill rides, others are mainly downhill – all have great views and take you far from asphalted roads and can be changed, shortened or lengthened depending on your preferences. On these tours you can meet those out for a ride or walk for a picnic lunch. Bring your own bike (we have a storage facility and a place for running repairs), or rent one of ours.

Tuscany multi activities

A range of other activities are available from us. You may want to head out on an excursion to nearby Siena or Massa Marittima by cheap local bus, explore the local mines, go canoeing, try archery or quad-biking – all are available, just ask. Of course horses can be hired by the hour for those that want to sample riding, and you don’t have to sign up to a multi-day tour to hire one of our bikes.

Food and Beverages

Accommodation in the hotel can be provided on a B and B, half board or full board basis, but tours are offered on B and B basis. Meals in the hotel are prepared using only the freshest of local ingredients and are largely centred around typical Tuscan favourites. We have an extensive collection of excellent local wines to complement meals.

If out and about don’t miss our renowned picnic lunches where walkers and riders and hotel guests meet up in the countryside for a sumptuous picnic.

You’ll enjoy some of the best fare in the region if you stay with us and many guests comment how the food was a highlight of their stay.

Accommodation

Our small family run hotel comprises of 24 rooms and has the feeling of a rural Tuscan house. The high-ceilinged salon and comfortable bar provides a comfortable place to relax and rooms have telephone, television, coffee/ tea making facilities and en-suite shower and toilet. The warm rose colour of the rock façade and the terracotta statues and floor tiles of our swimming pool terrace evoke the earthy tones of the surrounding Tuscany countryside. Don’t forget to enjoy our warm-water pool with hydro-massage, a chance to relax in true comfort.

Transport

With notice we are able to cater for any small to medium size group staying with us, arranging transfers from nearby Follinca, just 1 hour south of Pisa, to sightseeing excursions of the area and to Siena, 50km away.

Local Guides

We know the area well and as such are able to ensure that clients joining us have up to date and detailed information in the form of route notes and detailed maps.

Age Restrictions

We operate with no minimum age, but we ask that horse riders are aged over 10 years. Younger children on request.
