Captain Mohamed Ezz el Din Mohamed the owner, chief pilot and chief pilot instructor has been involved in the international ballooning industry since 1988, beginning his flying career in the UK. He formed Hod Hod Soliman, which has the longest balloon flying record in Luxor, in 1993 since when it has been offering its classic flights over the stunning west bank. Since this time Hod Hod have been awarded three international gold medals for quality and service.

It was in 1993 that Jennifer Oliver joined the company as volunteer administrator quickly progressing to her still current roles of Consultant Operations Manager. Some 4 years later, in 1997, Tarek Mohamed el Khalil joined the company and is now pilot and pilot instructor whilst 2000 saw the arrival of Amr Abd El Nebi: both are Captains, pilots and pilot instructors.

We have three handling crews totalling fifty members. Each crew has a designated Chief Crew: all members have been trained by the company to the highest standard.

Through our dedicated team we have become the balloon operator of choice for a high number of internationally respected tour operators who recognise through passenger feedback and spot checks that we provide the very best and safest balloon experience in Luxor.

Expertise and Specialisation

The integration of ancient and modern Egyptian civilization and their total dependence on the presence of the magnificent Nile in a naturally arid environment can only really be appreciated from the air.

As the vagaries of air pressures and winds are constantly changing flying over a pre-designated area cannot be guaranteed, however the pilots’ long experience means they are more likely than not to know where the "three dimensional chess board" of Luxor’s air currents is most likely to take us. Wherever we may fly their experience generally enables them to navigate over what is held to be some of the most beautiful scenery in Egypt.

Commercial filming is undertaken for interested parties, mainly documentary and entertainment company film crews, but passenger flights are our speciality and Hod-Hod Soliman has been featured on the British T.V. program "Wish You Were Here …….?" No less than three times.

All pilots part of the Hod Hod team are mature, highly qualified and very experienced and use the best UK-made equipment, maintained to the very highest standards. These factors are reflected in the company's unique safety record.

What an amazing experience. Before flight taken by motor boat across Nile and given thorough safety briefing by pilot. Also given a welcome drink and opportunity to ask questions and meet other people going on the balloon flight. Then taken by mini bus to field to board balloon . All staff friendly and helpful. 4 compartments in balloon for passengers and 1 in centre for pilot. Smooth take off. No turbulence. because sky so clear in Luxor incredible unhinderered views over the West Bank. Real panorama of valley of Kings, Temple Of Hatshepsut, Valley of queens, Valley of the workers ,Ramaseum, Colossae of Memnon, Coptic Monastery, desert and surrounding and fields and farmland in a way which can only really be seen from the air. Gave real perspective after having already seen and visited these places from the ground. The Pilot Ahmed flew in quite low so we could get really good views and made sure everyone got the same views by turning the balloon. He was very knowledgable about Egyptian antiquities and gave plenty of explanations about the things we were seeing and time to ask questions. We all felt very safe. Also saw Sun rise over luxor pretty spectacular. Took amazing photographs and videoed sunrise. These are the best photo's we have of Luxor. Had safe landing no bumps at all. Would thoroughly recommend Hod-Hod Soliman balloons to any one. Was one of the best experiences of our holiday. Feel that what made it extra special was the knowlege and expertise of the pilot. Spoke to other people who went on balloon rides but none of them seemed to have had the views or the commentary on Luxor that we had. Was glad we went to Hod Hod and not another cheaper company. it was well worth the money and we felt safe the whole time.

Hod-Hod Soliman Balloon Adventures: Fabulous Morning Excursion

The balloon trip lived up to more than I expected. We had a pick up early in the morning from our boat, followed by a motor boat ride across the Nile.

We had full safety briefing on board the boat along with that well needed coffee :-)

The balloon ride was awesome, from tickling the crops to rising high in the sky. Never did I feel scared (considering I don't like heights)... Never did I feel cramped. The pilot used his skill to turn the balloon so all passengers got the same view.

We were in the air 50 minutes, and saw the most amazing sunrise over Luxor.

Well recommended. It was superb...

Thanks Hod Hod - and thanks Jenny.

My travel insurance required that I book and pay for a balloon trip from the UK. I therefor did a lot of prior research on safety and customer satisfaction before deciding on Hod-Hod Soliman, and the trip made our holiday!

Everything about the organisation was thoroughly professional, from the preflight safety briefing to the featherlight landing (not guaranteed). Our 12 passenger gondola gave us plenty of room and unrestricted views, and our pilot Tarek was most informative and very charming (my wife made me add that). Luxor's West Bank has so much to see and this is definitely a great and unique way of putting it all in perspective.

There are many reviews elsewhere on the web about what fantastic sights you can see, but this review is about the balloon company, and I cannot recommend Hod-Hod Soliman more highly. Sure there are cheaper companies that any taxi driver will put you in contact with when you get out there, but ballooning is exciting enough without the additional safety-factor fears. Jenny Oliver is their Operations Manager out there and her British origin is reflected in her rigorous approach to health & safety, as well as all other aspects of a very smooth operation.

I must also mention Carl Welsby of Addicted to Travel for putting me in contact with Jenny Oliver prior to our departure. For this and for other contacts and itineraries you are both stars. Many thanks.

A balloon flight should be on anyones list of 50 THINGS TO DO BEFORE I DIE,
and for the added WOW factor do it over Luxor for a totally unforgettable experience.
