The western part of Albania is home to the nation’s capital city, Tirana; a major Adriatic coastal resort, Durresi; the museum city of Berati; and the ancient ruins of Apollonia.

Broadly comprising four of Albania’s twelve counties this region is the one that travellers to Albania are most likely to visit. Lacking the intensity of the mountains in the north and east, western Albania more than makes up for the lack of dramatic scenery with a wealth of Albanian cultural highlights.
