Most people choose Mauritius as a destination for its tropical beaches, rest and relaxation. But for those wishing to enjoy the cultural and social heritage of the country, Port Louis offers an ideal base from which to explore the island. Further south the coast offers a selection of the island’s most lavish resort hotels and comfortable family hotels. Centred on the town of Flic en Flac, this is the place for deep-sea fishing enthusiasts at nearby Black River. The only world heritage site in Mauritius, Aapravasi Ghat, is located in Port Louis. The highlands of Mauritius with hiking trails in the Black River Gorges National Park are close by.
