Vágar is one of the 18 islands in the archipelago of the Faroe Islands and the most westerly of the large islands. With a size of 178 square kilometres, it ranks third behind Streymoy and Eysturoy.
Tourist attractions on Vágar are excellent and are perhaps the best in the Faroe Islands. The country’s two largest lakes, respectively Sørvágsvatn and Fjallavatn, can be found there. The island is also known for its 4,900 metre-long tunnel.
As for Mykines, it is said to be the perfect haven for solitary retreat and a paradise for birds. This small island is the home of thousands of migratory birds during summer with the puffin as the foremost resident.
The island has a very distinct shape, a dog's head, with Sørvágsfjørður as the mouth and Fjallavatn as the eye.
