Action-packed Salalah

Sitting on the Arabian Sea 1,040km from Muscat, Salalah is gateway to the wonders of the south. This is the land of frankincense, that valuable commodity that brought wealth to this arid desert region, and whose trees can still be seen today. Internationally important, the entire region is UNESCO World Heritage Site-listed, whilst archaeological evidence points to occupation throughout the region by many different civilisations with the ruins of ancient Al Balid, Samharam and the perhaps the most-famous, the legendary Ubar.

This is a region for the true adventure traveller: distances are huge and at times travelling is difficult, but attractions such as the Qara Mountains with their waterfalls, Wadi Dirbat’s cave paintings, opportunities for diving and wind-surfing make it all worthwhile for the intrepid traveller.
