Southern Albania has many highlights and is the region that many travellers will first set foot in when arriving from nearby Corfu island in Greece. Saranda and the ancient ruins of Butrint are a popular day trip and only a short ferry journey away.

Broadly consisting of two of Albania’s twelve counties - Vlora and Gjirokastra - southern Albania’s population includes a substantial Greek minority. The pick of the best places to visit include the ancient site of Byllis, the spectacular Ionian seacoast, Gjirokastra city, Saranda and the ancient site of Butrint.
