Smallest of the nation’s 4 main islands Shikoku nevertheless has much to offer.

Kotohira is a small city famous for the Kompirasan, arguably Shikoku's most popular shrine, along with the Kanamaruza, Japan's oldest surviving, complete kabuki playhouse, sill occasionally staging performances.

Takamatsu is the capital of Japan's smallest prefecture, Kagawa. The Matsudaira Clan, controlled this former castle town and the surrounding region during most of the Edo Period – see the outstanding Japanese garden of Ritsurin Koen and the Shikoku Mura Open Air Museum about Shikoku architecture.

Matsuyama is Shikoku's largest city and is most famous for Matsuyamajo, a beautiful, original castle and one of Japan's oldest hot springs Dogo Onsen.

Kochi too has a castle and the beach at Katsurahama.
