The south of Réunion, with Saint-Pierre as the main town and its lagoon, is as open to the sea as it is to the mountains. The main attraction of the South is its wild coast (running from Grand-Bois to Tremblet) and its forests (Saint-Philippe, Mare-Longue and Bassé Vallée). The higher lands of the south are beautiful areas, from the flowery slopes of Tampon to the upper reaches of Saint-Joseph. This region is also the southern gateway to the volcanic lands of the island.
