Most travellers who venture into northern Uganda head for either Murchison Falls National Park in the northwest or Kidepo Valley National Park in the northeast. Between them these two excellent wilderness areas contain a wonderful diversity of wildlife and scenery – ranging from vast arid savannah plains to soaring mountains. The Victoria Nile flows through Murchison Falls providing refuge to huge Nile crocodiles and an abundance of hippos. A smaller reserve, Budongo Forest, protects the largest natural forest in East Africa and is home to Uganda’s largest population of Chimpanzees.
