The region of Kordofan lies in the centre of Sudan and is largely an undulating desert plain, with the scenic Nuba Mountains located in the southeast.
Formerly a province it now comprises the three federal states of North, South and West Kordofan. The rainy season runs from June through to September. Traditionally the area is known for production of gum Arabic.
