Beautiful Spanish colonial cities high in the clouds nestle between forested mountains of central Honduras. Small towns intricately preserved are home to a mix of Spanish colonial settlers and native communities.

Cloud forests and the highest mountain in the country (Celaque at 2850m) do little to inhibit visits to nearby ancient ruins left by the Maya civilisation, including some of the best preserved and studied in Central America – the most famous being the ruins of Copan.

Why Travel to Highlands of Honduras?

  • Deep in the cloud forests of western Honduras near the border with Guatamala are perhaps the best preserved and studied ruins of the Mayan civilisation in Central America - Copan.
  • Gracias and Santa Rosa de Copán, among others, are wonderful examples of Spanish Colonial towns that still preserve much of their architecture and charm.
  • The national park of Celaque offers some of the best cloud forest hikes and nature walks in the country, with good infrastructure and well marked trails.
