Over the last 2 decades Thailand has transformed itself into a modern tiger economy of SE Asia and nowhere is this more apparent – and confusing – as in Bangkok. This exhilarating capital nonetheless remains as astonishing today as it has been for centuries before.

The Chao Phraya River is still the lifeblood of the city, its famous ferries and long-tailed boats transporting locals and visitors alike and providing a chance to take in some of the stunning temples that are unmissable in any visit to Bangkok.

There are palaces and temples aplenty, floating markets, dazzling spires of gold, amazing night markets that serve up some of the world’s best loved dishes. Visit Patpong for nightlife, see a bout of Thai boxing, discover the nations cultural heritage in some remarkable museums and shop in the city’s many shopping districts where the city’s world-renowned tailors work miracles in silk.

A short journey outside the city gives access to Kanchanaburi and the Bridge on the River Kwai whilst the stunning beaches at Pattaya and on the island of Koh Samet are but a short drive south.
