Highveld Cities of the Interior Plateau

Encompassing the 'Highveld', the highest part of the great interior plateau, Gauteng is the smallest of South Africa's provinces and is the economic heartland of the nation. Despite also being the most urbanised province there is still much to see and do for those interested in South African history, politics and culture.

With Johannesburg as its bustling financial capital and Pretoria, the country's administrative capital, located only 56 km apart, Gauteng is certainly not short on attractions. For somewhere a little more relaxed, Hartbeespoort Dam is picturesquely situated at the foot of the Magaliesberg mountain range and is a popular spot for outdoor lovers.
