For anyone who is fascinated by spectacular volcanic landscapes, they will not be disappointed on Isla de Fogo (Fire Island). The still active volcano dominates a landscape of black sand beaches, coffee plantations, organically cultivated vineyards and ancient volcanic lava flows. Fogo is simply one of the ‘must sees’ of Cape Verde.
Fogo is the archipelago’s fourth largest island. The landscape of Fogo shows considerable contrasts between the dry and arid zones of the south and the northern parts of the island – humid and amazingly fertile.
Fogo’s mountainous landscape is near perfect for land-based adventure and activity – a growing network of walking and biking trails (and volcano climbing!) offer increasing choice to those venturing here. A local guide will enhance the experience. Coral reefs draw experienced divers in search of little-dived waters, whilst volcano-spotters will delight in the sight of Mount Fogo set against a deep blue sky.
