Eastern Kyrgyzstan holds the twin beauties of Lake Issyk-Kul the stunning Alpine Altyn Arashan area and the dramatic peaks of the Tien Shan Mountains. Here the mountains welcome trekkers and mountaineers challenging the latter with summits such as Lenin Peak and Khan Tengri. But this region is also home to several worthwhile historical places of interest.

It is here you’ll find Balasagun and the Burana Tower and the ancient Silk Road city of Suyab, with their Sogdian past, and the strange carved “bal-bals” of nomadic Turks. Near to Naryn, lies Lake Song Kul and the Silk Road caravanserai of Tash Rabat, whilst the Torugart Pass links Kyrgyzstan with China.

To the south of the capital, Bishkek, lies the Ala Archa National Park with its famous gorge and a perfect location for biking, walking and horseriding.
