The eastern region of the Falkland Islands is home to the main Island, East Falkland and several smaller isles, such as Bleaker and Sea Lion Islands.

Home to the archipelago’s capital, Port Stanley, this is also home to the international airport, Mount Pleasant, which receives several weekly flights from Great Britain and Chile. Outside these settlements lies Camp, the wild Falklands countryside which is mostly given over to sheep farming on the exposed grasslands.

It was this region of the islands which saw most of the action during the Falklands conflict in 1982, and today many areas remain out of bounds due to the risk of unexploded landmines.

The islands are rich in birdlife and summer climate is similar to that of an English spring day, with less rain. Because the air is so clear and unpolluted, sunscreen is advisable.
