The Lake District National Park is one of the most important protected areas of countryside in England. Located at the heart of Cumbria, it is home to beautiful mountains and valleys that contain many streams, rivers, lakes and tarns.
England's highest peak, Scafell Pike (978 metres), and deepest lake, Wastwater (79 metres) and longest lake, Windermere (10.5 miles) are found here, as are the famous peaks of Helvellyn, the Old Man and the Langdale Pikes.
Made famous by the Great Romantics, like Wordsworth and Ruskin, and by famous hill walkers like Wainwright, this is a countryside lover and hikers’ paradise. Those who enjoy village life can settle for a a locally brewed pint or cup of tea in Hawkshead, Ambleside, Grasmere and Keswick, which is are also becoming popular for outdoor gear shopping.
