The heart of Croatia and encompassing the nation’s capital, Zagreb, central Croatia is a distinct region in both culture and landscape. If you prefer a holiday that delivers mountain landscapes and historical interest over beaches then this area is for you.

With many old castles, Baroque churches, monasteries, thermal spas and museums the region is just now being discovered. Organised cycling routes, old wine roads, ancient traditions are all to be found here. Head to the Hrvatsko Zagorje which borders with Slovenia, and Karlovac for rivers and highlands.

There are winter sports on the slopes of Bjelolasica, the old city of Sisak while the Varazdin region is an area of Baroque-period influences.
