Atlantic Mauritania is a region of real contrasts - where the sands of the Sahara meet the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. Home to wonderful wilderness and wildlife with one of earth's most spectacular winter bird migrations at Banc D'Arguin National Park. And, home to Nouakchott, Mauritania's fast-growing capital - not an attractive city, but one which warrants a short visit nevertheless. For many though, the highlights are the wonderful beaches, dramatic wind-formed scenery and colourful fishing villages.
