From the steaming jungles of the Amazon to the frozen glaciers of Patagonia, South America is a fascinatingly diverse continent. The ancient ruins of Inca Machu Picchu in Peru and the Rapa Nui statues of Easter Island stand testament to lost civilisations, whilst the colonial cities built by the invading Spanish and Portuguese, are rich in historical significance.

Chile and Argentina share the continent’s southern tip in Patagonia, where the continent’s backbone of the Andes travels north to the Atacama Desert, Lake Titicaca in Bolivia, through Peru to Ecuador and Colombia. Rural, lesser visited Uruguay and Paraguay offer much to discover for the off-the-beaten-track traveller, as do the tiny countries of French Guiana, Guyana and Suriname, which sit upon wildlife-rich rainforests that are fed by the basins formed by the mighty Amazon and Orinoco Rivers. Here too is Venezuela, home to the famous Lost World of Mount Roiaima and the Angel Falls.

Culture, lost civilisations, the natural world and wildlife are each a key feature of many trips to South America, with countless opportunities for hiking, trekking, biking, rafting, boating, relaxation, jungle experiences and birdwatching. Perhaps one of the most memorable holidays of all is one that follows in the footsteps of Charles Darwin, to discover the Enchanted Isles of Galapagos.

My recent movie, “Tango and Samba Falls”, presents highlights of Argentina and Brazil, starring Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, and Iguazu Falls.

Tango in Buenos Aires, meet Evita, enjoy Gaucho dancing from the Pampas; and then north to the Argentina side of massive Iguazu Falls, featuring “The Devil’s Throat”.

Across the border to Brazil, for a close-up of the falls from below. In Rio, gaze at the views from famous mountain tops, and look for the Girl from Ipanema at Rio’s beaches. Take in a Samba show, featuring costumes that range from almost nothing to extremely elaborate and colorful. With digital effects.

“Tango and Samba Falls” can be seen on the web, if you have a high speed internet connection. This is a free, non-commercial, streaming video on the Windows Media Player. No ads and no strings attached. I sell absolutely nothing. My video site is:
