From the cool reaches of Greenland and the high Arctic, to the balmy beaches of Mexico’s Caribbean and its tropical rainforests of the south, North America is an incredibly diverse continent. Here some of the world’s largest and most populated cities are separated by huge tracts of space, covered by forests, deserts, great lakes, fields, canyons and mountain ranges.
With active volcanoes in Hawaii and forceful geysers in the United States, North America is a region characterised by the great forces of Nature. The Grand Canyon of the US and Copper Canyon in Mexico are enormous windows into the Earth, whilst the mighty Rockies reach skyward, spanning western Canada. Much of the wild interiors of Alaska and Greenland remain untouched and pristine coastlines offer some of the world’s most beautiful sea voyages.
The Inuit people of Greenland still hunt native wildlife for survival, but other wild areas of the north are rich in wildlife - with bears, orca, whales and eagles being some of the most prized sightings for those who seek them. In more populated areas, outdoor activities are well catered for, with camping, hiking, canoeing, biking and skiing being high up on the to-do list. Urban junkies love the bright lights and big cities of the US. Then, travelling south through Mexico, the transition begins between North and Latin America. Here modern day cultures blend into the ancient traditions of the Mayan, and rich jungles hide lost cities.
