Smaller than its neighbour to the east, West Falkland Island is the ultimate place to escape the rat-race of everyday life. With a tiny scattered population of just over 100 people, this is remote and wild. Here, Mother Nature rules supreme and there are many lively colonies of fascinating birds, such as the rockhopper penguin or the brown-browed albatross, which are a must-see for any visitor.
In the Falkland Islands, anything outside Stanley is known as ‘Camp’, and this is Camp proper with only scattered farmsteads where the priorities are sheep farming and conservation.
Four main ranges of rolling hills reach their peak at Mount Adam, which is about 700 meters high, and beautiful beaches are bordered with dramatic cliffs that plunge into the cool seas and teem with an abundance of wildlife.
Attractions in West Falkland
The countryside is beautiful and the coastline – particularly in the south – is truly stunning.
Activities in West Falkland
You’ll find plenty to do and though you’ll not be organised or regimented, the locals will be helpful and supportive.
There’s walking, bird and wildlife watching, beach-combing, fishing – or just sitting while the wild-life comes to investigate YOU!
Relaxing
Sit back with the locals in one of the small hamlets and enjoy a fascinating chat with the locals over a cup of PG Tips tea.
Getting Around
The one road is supplemented by track, so the best way to get around is by 4x4 or fly.
