In the west of Larnaka district lies Vavla, built at approximately 470 metres above sea level. Vavla is a small traditional village preserving its traditional architecture to a large extent. There are various stories regarding the origin of its name; the most prevalent being that it derives from the Italian word "vavala".
Today, following the waves of urban pull, Vavla stands within a rich natural environment of wild vegetation, a great number of plants, vineyards, carob trees, almond trees, and grain plantations. The visitor should see the noteworthy Monastery of Ayios Minas close to the village, walk the nature trails of the area, and visit the neolithic settlement of Choirokoitia.
