Resting at the far tip of Latin America, on the island of Tierra del Fuego, overlooking the shores of the Beagle Channel, Ushuaia claims to be the southernmost city of the world.
Departure point for most Antarctic Voyages heading to the Antarctic Peninsula, the Falkland Islands or South Georgia, this small city has seen an enormous growth in tourism over the last decade.
It is not just Antarctic tourism that brings people to Ushuaia, however. Famed for its world class fishing, fantastic hiking possibilities, shorter boat journeys and skiing, this remains a pioneers’ town at what is literally el Fin del Mundo – the End of the World.
There is a saying in Uahuaia that goes “if you don’t like the weather, come back in five minutes”, as this remote location sees a changeable climate and here it is possible to experience all the seasons in one day. Despite this, the cool, crisp summer months see their fair share of good weather and the wealth of outdoor shops that line the high street ensure you’ll never be short of an extra couple of layers!
Ushuaia is home to several excellent museums and is located close to some magnificent scenery which is crying out to be explored.
Relaxing
If you fancy splashing out on some simply outstanding cuisine, with a magnificent view over the city and Beagle Channel to the islands beyond, there are few better eateries in the whole of Argentina than Kapué.
