Towada-Hachimantai National Park is located in the Tohoku region of Honshu. The park covers 862 sq. km and includes mountain ranges, lakes, streams, and hot-springs with great opportunities for trekking in the summer and skiing in the winter.
Among the attractions of the park, Lake Tazawa at its southern end has nearby ski lifts, hot-springs, and biking and trekking opportunities, whilst the Towada Jinja Shrine, in Yasumiya, is surrounded by giant cedars and woodcarvings of animals.
A great way to enjoy the stunning Lake Towada is aboard one of the excursion boats which run from April to mid-November. The lake’s shoreline covers approximately 44km and includes inlets, cliffs, and trees that show off their spectacular colour in the autumn.
