The stylish city of Toulouse is the fourth largest city in France. Well known for its pink brick building the city has been given the name 'Ville Rose'. The heart of the city is the huge, arcaded Place du Capitole, where the impressive Capitole building is the seat of local government. Here on Wednesdays there is a large market for food, clothes and a whole range of items and a smaller organic food market on Tuesday and Saturday mornings.
Old Toulouse, situated between two nineteenth-century streets, is very compact and easy to walk around. One of the prettiest streets in Old Toulouse is rue Croix-Baragnon. As well as museums, magnificent architecture such as the churches of St-Sernin and Les Jacobins there are many picturesque squares such as Place St-Etienne in front of the cathedral.
Founded during the Roman Empire, Toulouse was once a major metropolis of western Europe. After a quiet period during the 18th and 19th centuries, Toulouse became of importance after the relocation of key military and aerospace industries to the city. Toulouse has now become Europe's capital of aerospace industry.

Taxis are one of the easiest ways to get around Toulouse, the service is good and the rates are metered. The city’s bus system is also very effective and easy to use.
