The Turquoise Coast stretches from Dalyan in the west to Antalya in the east and encompasses what is for many the very best Turkey has to offer. The entire coast is liberally endowed with ancient cities, friendly towns and hidden villages, great beaches and stunning landscapes. Here you can take things as slow as you like, or you get active with a huge variety of adventure sports.

Whereas some parts of the Mediterranean are now over-commercialised Turkey’s Turquoise Coast has to a large degree avoided this fate. At around 2 and a half hours the relatively long transfer from Dalaman airport to lovely towns such as Kalkan and Kaş has meant that only the really enthusiastic bother to make the journey. Whilst these towns are growing their centres remain much as they have always been – a network of whitewashed back streets.

The Turquoise Coast is where pine trees tumble down steep mountainsides that soar to over 3000 metres in height. Hidden inland and often crowning hilltops or with sea lapping at their feet as is the case with Olympos are ancient cities, once part of the powerful Carian and Lycian states and fought over by Persians, Greeks and Romans. Even if visiyors can’t understand the inscription on the many tombs, theatres, agoras and countless other remains they provide an opportunity to glimpse something of life as it was here two millennia ago.

Lovers of the great outdoors will find few better places than the Turquoise Coast to explore, with the dedicated way-marked walking trail, the Lycian Way, running the entire length and providing a month of walking should you want it. Inland there are many other trails, gorges and villages to explore, whilst in places like Dalyan, Kalkan and Kaş there are opportunities to try sea-kayaking, canyoning or diving.

Attractions in The Turquoise Coast

Highlights have to be the hidden city of Caunos which can be accessed easily on foot from nearby Dalyan, the ancient cities of Xanthos and Letoon require your own transport but are well worthwhile. Relax on the beach at Patara after wandering its ruined city or head on down to Kaş to do some sea-kayaking, paragliding or trying your hand at SCUBA diving – it’s the perfect place to give it a go.

Activities in The Turquoise Coast

There are any number of activities to enjoy all along the coast. Contact a local travel expert who will be able to give advice, book activities of even arrange whole itineraries.

Relaxing

Whilst not over commercialised all the main towns have a great selection of restaurants and bars.

Getting Around

All the main towns along the Turquoise Coast are linked by long-distance bus from both Fethiye and Antalya with dolmuşes radiating out from there to serve the small towns and villages. Alternatively taxis are plentiful in larger towns or to make the most of limited time or to make life easier a car and driver is an affordable option for visits to off the beaten track historical sites.
