Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary is located in Kerala in Ernakulam District. It is home to a dense tropical evergreen and deciduous forest, grasslands.... and some 500 species oftropical bird species!

Largely the work of Dr. Salim Ali, a renowned ornithologist, who was attracted here due to the wonderful birdlife. Today the sanctuary covers some 25 sq. km. and lies between the tributaries of the river Periyar. Rare bird species that can be seen include the bee eater, crimson-throated barbet, sunbird, black-winged kite, shrike, grey jungle fowl, night heron, white-breasted water hen, Sri Lankan frog moth, hornbills, rose-billed roller and blue-winged parakeet.
