Located at the end of Dunajec gorge on the border with Slovakia, this town is a spa and winter sports centre.
Although a settlement existed here since the 15th century, and its mineral waters were renowned for curative properties as early as in the 17th century, it was not before 1820 when the first spa buildings were constructed. The popularity of the spa reached its peak at the end of the 19th century.
