Sun City is internationally renowned as South Africa 's premier holiday resort offering a multitude of attractions and activities. With its combination of golf, game and gambling as well as world class hotels, it is probably the perfect choice for any holiday in South Africa.

Sun City is a luxury South African casino resort, situated close to the city of Rustenburg, some hundred kilometres from Johannesburg . It was developed by the hotel magnate Sol Kerzner as part of his Sun International group of properties, and was officially opened in1979.

As Bophuthatswana had been declared an independent state by South Africa's apartheid government, it was allowed to provide 'immoral' entertainment such as gambling and topless revue shows, which were banned in South Africa. These factors as well as its relatively close location to the large metropolitan areas of Pretoria and Johannesburg, ensured that Sun City soon became a popular holiday and weekend destination. Many famous musicians such as Queen, Elton John, Linda Ronstadt, Julio Iglesias, The O'Jays, Ray Charles, Boney M, Rod Stewart, Tina Turner, Dionne Warwick, Sarah Brightman, Laura Branigan and Thomas Anders also performed at the 'Sun City Super Bowl auditorium.

Attractions in Sun City

Sun City has two international-standard 18-hole golf courses, the Gary Player Country Club and the Lost City Golf Course, both designed by Gary Player. The Gary Player Country Club is home to the prestigious Nedbank Golf Challenge (formerly the Nedbank Million Dollar Golf Challenge), while the Lost City Golf Course is noted for the 38 real crocodiles in the water feature of the 13th hole.

Close to the resort is the Pilanesberg National Park.

Activities in Sun City

Activities here include elephant back riding, quad biking, archery, clay pigeon shooting, golf and swimming. Or if you're feeling lucky then why not try your hand at one of the 852 slot machines and 38 gaming tables in Sun City's casino.

Relaxing

Relax by visiting one of the city's restaurants and cinemas, or perhaps catch a concert at the Sun City Superbowl.

Getting Around

After parking there is a train that takes you to the City. To get to the city your best option is a hire car, you can hire a car from most major towns and cities as well as from airports.
