The medieval town of St Cere is located in the Bave valley, a tributary of the Dordogne. Full of ancient houses the town is dominated by the Chateau de St-Laurent-les-Tours. It is a perfect base from which to explore the wonderful countryside and is very close to a number of pretty medieval villages. The town itself holds a market every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month and during July and August there is a bustling night market. Every July and August St Cere hosts its annual music festival with excellent operatic and classical music. All in all a great place to explore on your trip through the region.
The town of St Cere developed around the St. Sperie chapel in the 10th century; its parish was administered by Carennac Priory from 1049 to 1791. The town’s ramparts were constructed by the Viscount of Turenne in 1464. The architectural wealth of the town can be seen in the half-timbered houses and Louis XIII-period buildings.
