The highlands of southern Tanzania are an excellent place to relax, cool down and unwind in a get away from it all highland lodge.  They are accessible at all times of year with a dry season between May and December and long rains between December and February with short rains between February and May.

The climate means that tea plantations thrive and the hills are covered in thick montane forest and rugged bushland interlaced with lakes, rivers and streams.

Although not on the usual tourist routes of Tanzania, the Highlands offer their own brand of magic and there is something for everyone.

Over 400 bird species have been recorded in the area including Grebes, Comorants, Herons, Egrets, Stork, Eagle, Hawk, Falcons, Quail, Crake, Moorhen, Bustards, Plover, Pigeon, Dove, Turacos, Owl, Nightjar, Swift, Kingfisher, Beeeater, Rollers, Hoopoe, Hornbills, Tinkerbirds, Barbets, Honeyguides, Woodpeckers, Larks, Swallows, Martins, Wagtails, Pipits, Thrush, Warblers, Flycatcher, Babblers, Sunbirds, Shrikes, Weavers and Widowbirds, Waxbills, Indigo and Whydahs.
