Sharm el Sheikh has grown rapidly over the last two decades to become the Sinai’s premier resort. Crowds are drawn to its relaxed approach to life and for the superb diving and snorkelling. Surrounding the modern, cosmopolitan town are some of the world’s most magnificent dive sites, comparing favourably with many others around the world.

Not long ago Sharm el Sheikh was little more than a motley collection of houses and a few local-style shops, but not anymore. Sharm el Sheikh is now a large, international resort attracting both divers and those in search of a beach holiday in an exotic location. The town is divided in two between Sharm town - an up and coming resort - and Nama’a Bay, already established as a resort and with an excellent beach and where the best dive operators are located.

Attractions in Sharm el Sheikh

Most visitors to Sharm el Sheikh are visiting on a package holiday booked from home; not all visitors are here for the diving, however the resort is very dive-orientated as you would expect. The infrastructure, accommodation and facilities are more developed than those at Dahab or Nuweiba.

Activities in Sharm el Sheikh

Ras Mohammed National Park is on the town’s doorstep and provides stunning diving and snorkelling. Any type of dive can be arranged in the area, from liveaboards, to shore and night dives, as well as a full range of courses. Camping trips staying overnight in Ras Mohammed National Park area are also available. Full day or overnight 4WD safaris into the Sinai interior can be arranged with visits possible to Mt Sinai and St Katherine’s, Serabit Al Khadim, Wadi Feinan and the Coloured Canyon.

Relaxing

As you would expect in an international beach resort there are any number of bars and nightclubs in the town. Sharm occasionally hosts outdoor concerts.

Getting Around

Taxis are the best way of getting around the resort, with transport usually included from your accommodation when booking activities such as dive trips.
