Savanne, the most southerly district of Mauritius, is also the least developed. It has a rugged and often wild coastal area with a number of attractions for those keen to explore away from the more popular resorts further north. Traditional fishing villages, sheltered coves, waterfalls and basalt sea cliffs can be found here, whilst a small cluster of hotels around Bel Ombre provide a choice of accommodation for those wishing to spend longer in this ‘off-beat’ part of the island.

Attractions in Savanne Coast

Many of the main sites are situated around the small settlement of Souillac, named after Vicomte de Souillac, a French governor of the island between 1779 and 1787. Visit Bois Cheri Tea estate for a cup of local ‘Dodo’ tea.
