The historic town of Sanok lies in a wooded, hilly area on the San River in southeast Poland. Sanok is home to an open air museum in the Biala Gora district. Examples of architecture from all of the region's main ethnic groups have been moved to the museum, then carefully reassembled in a skansen evoking everyday rural life in the 1800's.

Sanok was first mentioned in the Hypatian Codex (Red Gords) in 1150. It was given Magdeburg law by Boleslaus George II of Halych in 1339. The oldest part of the city still has its original medieval urban layout.

Getting Around

Although located in the far southeast of Poland, Sanok can be reached easily by road along route No. 28.
