Located on both sides of the Wislok river, in the heartland of the Sandomierska valley, Rzeszów was founded in the 14th century by King Casimir III of Poland. It used to be just a domain of the noble family of Lubomirski, one of the most significant in Poland. It is now a growing regional capital and has direct flight services to the UK, which provide an alternative gateway to reach southeast Poland.
For a very long time, despite having a famous annual market, Rzeszów remained only another city on the trade route to Hungary.
Attractions in Rzeszów
A visit to the castle of the Lubomirski noble family can be made, whilst a former summer palace and two synagogues are also of interest for those spending any time in the town. However, you can also visit Łańcut Palace and the Market Square. Or go to one of the several museums such as the Ethnographic Museum or the Museum of the City of Rzeszów.
Activities in Rzeszów
Head to the Market Square where you can explore the Trasa Podziemna, a series of interconnected cellars which stretch over several kilometres and date back from the 17th century.
Relaxing
By day relax by shopping at the pedestrianized area of Grundaldzka before visiting theatres such as the Maska Theatre in the evening. Then after a long day sightseeing check out the numerous pubs, cafes, restaurants, clubs and cocktail bars.
Getting Around
Buses are available to get from the old town to the outer suburbs and the new town but the old town itself is navigable by foot due to its compact size. There are also numerous cycle routes throughout the city.
