Located in the Alpes Maritime Department, close to the French Riviera and the Italian border, the Roya Valley is a mountainous region of valleys, forests and rivers. Starting at the Col de Tende on the French-Italian border, its route runs south for around 35km to Breil-sur-Roya before it crosses back over the border into Italy.

This beautiful area is dotted with medieval mountain villages such as Saorge, perched high above the river and considered to one of the most beautiful villages in France; and La Brigue, located on one side of the river and overlooked by high rocky cliffs.

The region is fantastic for trekking with many local and Grande Randonee trails and overnight refuges. The Vallee des Merveilles offers superb trekking as well as Bronze Age and Gallo-Roman rock engravings. A great way to discover this area is to trek from village to village along the donkey paths which cross the valley.

Other than trekking many other sports can be enjoyed such as horse riding, parachuting, paragliding, white water rafting and canyoning.
