Those who know the island consider this valley to be one of the prettiest on Santo Antao, if not the prettiest. It is undoubtedly one of the greenest and coolest valleys to be found in the entire archipelago.
Bounded by towering mountains, Valle do Paul is one of the few places in Cape Verde where water is to be seen running along a river bed with tropical vegetation flourishing.
Travellers come to the Paul Valley to hike the Ribeira do Paul. The 9 km/5 hour hike can be done in either direction, up from Vila das Pombas to the fertile volcanic Cova do Paul crater, or down in reverse.
