Lots of ascent and descent characterises this moderately difficult walk that passes through small villages and forests of conifers to the high altitude (2,980m) lake that is a haven for some of the country’s unique wildlife. The return trek follows a different route, negating the need to retrace your steps.
The maximum elevation reached is approaching 3,710m at Ghurchi Mara but it’s the ascent and descent that makes it a tiring trek.
The season for the Rara Lake trek is March to October in contrast to the autumn/spring treks further east. This allows an appreciation of the flora and fauna that can be found here.
If you are looking for an unusual, moderately difficult camping trek that will take you into a wilderness area then look no further – Rara Lake could be for you.
