This city is the provincial capital of Pastaza housing some 25,000 residents. It also provides a crossroads for visitors arranging various tours to the jungle and forest reserves. This attractive jungle town is also the crossover point for further onward routes into the northern and southern oriente as well as travelers journeying back to Baños and Ambato.
Puyo, the capital of the province of Pastaza, is located between Banos and the Amazonian cities of Tena and Macasat at an altitude of approximately 950 AMSL by the Puyo River. Founded in 1899, Puyo is the commercial, cultural, and political capital of the region.
Attractions in Puyo
They include the Etno-Arqueologico Museum and nearby reserves namely Las Orquideas Botanical Gardens, Criadero de Vida Silvestre Fatima, Omaere Ethnobotanical Reserve, and the Hola Vida Ecological Foundation. Shell, an American missionary centre located 15 kilometres from Puyo is also worth a visit.
Poyo also hosts some annual events namely the Puyo Carnaval, the Day of the Ecuadorian East Amazon, and the Chonta-palm Festival.

Visitors to Puyo can enjoy trekking, biking, boat trips, and walking. Tours to the jungle and forest reserves can be arranged.
