Pongola is a small town situated in northern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, on the Pongola River, only 10 kilometres from the Swaziland border.
During the 'Depression' years of the 1930s drastic irrigation systems were started in Pongola. The town thrived as a result of the canal system and a sugar mill that was built.
Pongola is the nearest town to both Pongola Game Reserve and Ithala Game Reserve.
