The beach at the beginning of the San Agustín-Playa del Inglés-Maspalomas resorts has greyish volcanic sand, which makes it less attractive than some of the neighbouring beaches. This unattractiveness means that the beach is less popular than the beaches in the neighbouring resorts and therein lies it's appeal - when Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas are stuffed during an August weekend, this beach is a welcome relief for those who are looking for relaxation. The beach is well sheltered and has a shallow slope, making it ideal for bathing.
San Agustin was the first resort to be established on Gran Canaria in the 1970s, even before Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas. It is renowned for its luxury accommodation, including large luxury hotels with in-house casinos. The resort offers a pleasant 2 kilometres of dark sandy beach nicely sheltered and ideal for family bathing, San Agustin's beach is lined by an attractive promenade running the entire length of this Gran Canaria resort.
